Duncan as a Veteran at the 2004 BCSA National
Duncan finished his breed Championship
at age 15 months with 18 points and 4 majors. Duncan earned an Award of Merit
at the 1999 BCSA National Specialty under breeder specialist judge Bruce
Kilsby and an Award of Excellence at the Inaugural AKC/Eukanuba Invitational
Classic under Dr. J. Donald Jones in 2001. Although very seldom shown, he was
ranked in the top twenty (breed) in 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002. He was also
ranked in the BCSA top twenty for open obedience in 2000, and received
Honorable Mention in the 2000 and 2001 Front & Finish First and Foremost
Duncan is one of those dogs who shines
at everything he does. He obtained his CD in 3 shows with two second places
and one third place, then went on to win his CDX with a first place the
following year. Duncan
won the Champion Dog with an AKC Herding Title class the first time it was
offered at a National Specialty. He then went on to become the first BCSA
Versatility dog to earn an Award of Merit. He received those three honors on October 15th, 1999 at
the Third Annual National Specialty.
to his breed rankings, Duncan
was ranked in the top twenty (all breed), in 1999, 2000 & 2001. These
rankings are due to his Group placements at large shows. Thank you Ms. Neena
Van Camp, Mr. Gerald Schwartz, Ms. Helen Lee James and Dr. Robert D. Smith
for recognizing Duncan's
qualities in impressive groups of nationally ranked dogs. Duncan also won Best of Breed at the 2002
KTBCC Supported Entry Louisville
Kennel Club show. That show had a huge Border Collie entry, and my thanks
once again go to Ms. Helen Lee James. I would like to also acknowledge Duncan's breeder, Ronni
DeLay, for her handling skills.
Duncan has one leg toward his Utility
title in Obedience. Duncan is the third dog I've trained through Novice, the
second that I've put a CDX on, and my first Utility dog. Duncan loves obedience and his performances
are always entertaining whether he qualifies or not. A judge recently
commented that bringing Duncan
into the obedience ring is like bringing in a loaded gun. Well, that gun
isn't just loaded - it's cocked and ready to explode!
If I can ever find
time to train again we will go
after the remaining 2 Utility legs.
Duncan introduced me to herding. Bob Vest, veteran stockdog trainer -
handler - judge, helped me give Duncan
a firm foundation in the art of sheep herding. Duncan earned his ASCA STDs title with
first and third placements in a large Started class.
Duncan spent a year in California polishing his herding skills
with Terry Kenney at T.A.S.K. Farms. While there, Duncan earned his ASCA OTDs with
placements, and finished his AKC HSAs with placements and a High In Trial.
Terry commented that he drove 350 miles to get to that trial, and Duncan
didn't waste any time winning his HIT - they were only in the arena for 1
minute and 23 seconds!
Duncan went on to earn his HXAs with 2
first places and a fourth place (including 2 High Scoring Border Collie
awards). He has multiple placements in
large, competitive Advanced classes - including TWO 4-point major High In
earned his HSAs, his OTDs, his HXAs and his HCh in less than twelve
months. During the time he was being
campaigned, he earned 3 High In Trials, 1 Reserve High In Trial, 2 High
Scoring Border Collie awards, 2 High Scoring Border Collie Champion of Record
awards, and 1 High Scoring Border Collie with an Obedience Title award. He has one leg in Herding Started
on the “B” course, but is now retired so that I can concentrate
on training his granddaughter, BonniDune The Future Is Now.
Duncan wins Best Veteran in Sweeps at the 2006 BCSA National
Judge Libbye Miller, DVM talked about Duncan's movement in her critique:

more are major pointed and should finish soon). One pup is an International
